Within my Zine “State of Mind” I addressed different mental illnesses through illustrating various mental diseases through minimalist faces. I utilized minimalist drawing to portray and depict each face of mental illness symptoms and impacts. The various forms of fluctuating line work was used to invoke the “emotion” correlated to each mental disease. The overall topic of mental illness to me is a “colorless” topic, as I utilized gradients and grey scale textures to contrast the linework inorder to invoke emotion which is correlated to each mental disease. I specifically choose to address the six most common mental illnesses among the United States today: Schizophrenia, Anxiety, Depression, Multi-Personality Disorder, and Bipolar. I contrasted the different forms of linework for each mental illness with a descriptive quotation from an individual who endured each specified mental illness. WIthin the textual integration, I utilized numerous forms of fonts to correlate text to each topic while integrating it within my design. The overall concept of my zine was to depict Mental Illness through facial minimalism in a very straight forward and understandable context.
